Transmission Repairs

Transmission Inspection, Diagnostics & Repair

When your car starts to act up, diagnosing if the vehicle’s transmission is actually the problem can be tricky. Over time, the transmission is guaranteed to wear down just like your tires do as miles and years increase. There are many signs, like strange and loud noises when you drive, that lead up to realizing you have an issue. AAMCO Minnesota can diagnose those signs and determine if they are actually coming from the transmission and what repairs are needed. Fixing a transmission problem can be expensive, so contact a Minnesota AAMCO location near you to take a look before it’s too late. The earlier you diagnose the problem, the easier it will be for our auto mechanics to restore your vehicle before you are in need of a complete transmission replacement.

Over half of the time, we’ll discover your transmission only requires a minor repair. It’s why AAMCO is the most trusted name in transmissions and has been for over 50 years.

We have the technology and the expertise to pin-point the root of your transmission problems so we only repair what needs fixing and nothing more. Schedule an appointment for a multi-point transmission inspection at one of our AAMCO locations near you. Take the Fear Out of Transmission Repair

Get to Know Some Transmission Basics If you’re like many drivers, you know some basics about your car’s transmission. Maybe you’ve done some research online for some information on how they work, or what that noise is your car is making. You know that a transmission works with the engine to make the tires rotate (and the car go). You know it’s the system that shifts the car’s gears. You probably even know that a transmission has fluid that needs to be checked and changed regularly. You definitely understand that a transmission is a complex system in their car that costs a lot of money to fix. That’s why you take your car to AAMCO Minnesota, the transmission experts. Read more…

How Often Should You Change Your Transmission Fluid?

Preventative maintenance can prevent costly repairs. It’s a lot cheaper to do some regular maintenance to keep your car running smoothly. Part of your maintenance schedule should include a transmission fluid check and, if needed, a fluid flush. Your local Minnesota AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care service center can do a complete fluid flush with our patented Power Purge® service, or just a fluid change that ensures your transmission is always running clean and efficiently. Here’s a handy infographic about transmission fluid changes. Read more…

Should I Repair or Replace My Transmission?

image of transmission with ground up gears, cogs, needs repair.

Transmission troubles can be both frustrating and costly. Your transmission is one of your car’s most complex and essential engine components. Your car’s transmission carries the engine’s power to the drive axels by using different gears. This allows your engine to rotate at various speeds. Once you have determined that it is your car’s transmission that needs to be fixed you will need to decide if you want to have your transmission repaired, replaced, or rebuilt. Read more…

Exhaust System & Muffler Repair

image of car exhaust pipe with muffler Your muffler and exhaust system are in a pretty unpleasant place – under your car. They experience a lot of wear and tear, and it’s easy for them to be damaged by all kinds of road hazards and adverse conditions. As you drive, rough roads, rain, snow, ice, and anything you could drive through or run over can damage the exhaust system. Mufflers just wear out over time and start making some pretty awful noise if left unchecked. Once damaged or rusted, there are all kinds of sounds that might come from your car’s underside – and parts might even start falling off (we’ve all seen and/or had to steer around the random muffler laying in the middle of the road). Also, the color and smell of the exhaust emitted from your vehicle provides a good indicator that something is wrong. It’s time to call your local AAMCO or book an appointment online.

Signs of a Damaged Exhaust System

The exhaust system has a lot of parts that can be damaged. From the cylinders through the manifold to the catalytic converter and beyond, it’s a system that needs maintenance and repair, and it just doesn’t last forever. It’s a network of connected pipes and parts designed to filter and route emissions from the engine compartment toward the rear of the vehicle. Five primary parts – oxygen sensor, exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, and muffler – are involved. Components are joined together with gaskets, or seals, to minimize leakage. Read more on the ways our car’s exhaust system can get damaged.

Automobile A/C Repair

image - close-up of car air conditioning control dial Keep your car nice and cool during the summer. Keep your A/C clean and efficient in the winter months. There are many parts that make up your car’s air conditioning system and its ability to keep you cool, or even help defog in the wintertime. If your car’s A/C is not working as well as you think it should, come to your local AAMCO to have it checked. We’ll diagnose any issues with your car’s AC and get you back on the road in cool comfort or fog-free safety. Call a Minnesota AAMCO location near you and ask for a FREE A/C check.

Check Engine Light On?

image - An extreme closeup of an illuminated yellow-orange check engine indicator dashboard light isolated on black background. There are many sensors, computer systems and components that manage your vehicle’s engine performance. When one of these fails, the check engine light comes on. Your car might seem fine, you might not even notice anything different, but we suggest bringing it in to your local AAMCO Minnesota Transmission & Total Car Care for an inspection. We’ll do a thorough inspection of all major systems in your car. We check to make sure you are completely up to date on recommended factory maintenance and your car is safe and efficient. We identify issues and recommend the necessary repairs – but we don’t do any work without your approval. Of all the things that make car care easy for you, the check engine light is key to keeping your car running at its best and keeping you on the road.

Get an Engine Tune-Up

Book Appointment Nowimage of AAMCO mechanic talking with customer, discussing engine and repairs under the hood of her car. A vehicle that is noticeably out of tune or has failed an emissions test can affect gas mileage by an average of 4% according to U.S Department of Energy. Fixing a serious maintenance problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve your mileage by as much as 40%. A tune up service at your local Minnesota AAMCO includes inspection and adjustment of systems in your vehicle that contribute to fuel economy and performance. Regular tune-ups increase the lifespan of your vehicle and protect against having to make fewer expensive repairs in the future.

Why Your Car Won’t Start

There are few things worse than the feeling you get when you turn the key in the ignition of your car and nothing happens. Sometimes it turns over, chugs, sputters, but just won’t catch and go. Could it be the starter? Battery? Alternator? Worse yet… the fuel pump? Or are you just out of gas? A good tune-up will help, for sure. Here are a few of the most common causes of your car not starting.
